Senator Hwang Encourages Application for New Round of Open Space Grants in Connecticut
August 27, 2024HARTFORD – The state of Connecticut has officially announced a new round of Open Space and Urban Green Grants. The Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) has invited municipalities, water companies, and land trusts to apply for this funding to purchase open space through the Open Space and Watershed Land Acquisition Grant Program (OSWA). The application period is open now through December 2, 2024.
OSWA grants can fund 65%-75% of permanent open space protection projects. The most successful projects typically focus on environmental justice and equity, protect important natural resources, enhance state climate change goals, and provide public access for outdoor recreation.
Today, Senator Hwang encouraged eligible participants to apply for these grants. “Investing in open space is crucial for preserving the natural beauty and environmental health of our communities. I urge our community leaders to seize the opportunity to apply for these grants and secure the funding needed for these vital open space initiatives. By working together, we can protect our natural resources, enhance quality of life, and create sustainable spaces for recreation,” Senator Hwang remarked.
