Sen. Seminara on the Rise in CT Youth Suicides

August 30, 2024

Sen. Lisa Seminara, Ranking Senator on the Committee on Children and the Human Services Committee, issued the following statement regarding the rise in youth suicides in Connecticut.

“We have a crisis in our state. In all of 2023, there were a total of seven youth deaths by suicide. There have been nine youth deaths by suicide in the past two months alone. September is National Suicide Prevention Month: a time for all of us to come together to discuss these tragic statistics and to focus on strengthening youth mental health policies. We must talk about solutions which provide the support, resources and help that our young people need at the very time they need it most.”

Sen. Seminara reminded the public that calling 211 or 988 nationally can help someone in crisis or anyone worried about someone in crisis.
