Sen. Lisa Seminara Commends Avon Vets for Helping Oppressed Afghan Family Resettle in Community

AVON – In an Aug. 22 ceremony at BeanZ & Co., Sen. Lisa Seminara formally recognized the efforts of the Avon VFW chapter to relocate an oppressed family from Afghanistan to Avon.

The Avon VFW Post 3272 announced the start of its Afghan Refugee Resettlement Project in August 2023. The mission: To resettle an Afghan family whose members helped U.S. forces during military operations in Afghanistan. Such families are currently living in extremely dangerous conditions in Afghanistan because of their support of U.S. and coalition forces.

The special project has involved volunteers from Avon, Canton, Simsbury and across the region. It has received financial support from the Avon Chapter of UNICO National, the largest Italian-American service organization in America.

Sen. Seminara presented Post 3272 with an official state citation commending the veterans on their work.
