Sen. Kissel & Harding Statement on DOC Audit

August 29, 2024

Sen. John A. Kissel, Ranking Senator on the Judiciary Committee and Sen. Republican Leader Stephen Harding issued the following statement on the state’s audit of the Connecticut Department of Correction (DOC).

“The report found a DOC employee that opted for an annual $3,032 holiday compensatory time payment erroneously received 54 bi-weekly payments totaling $163,729. DOC has acknowledged and explained the error, but that overpayment of taxpayer money must now be recovered. We are interested in learning the details of how and when that significant amount of taxpayer money will be clawed back. There are also 20 recommendations in the report that are repeat findings from past years. We appreciate the auditors’ diligence in continuing to recommend measures to improve controls and procedures at the agency. We very much appreciate the sacrifices that our corrections officers make every day on behalf of all Connecticut residents.”
