In August 2023, the Avon VFW Post 3272 announced the start of its Afghan Refugee Resettlement Project.
The mission, Seminara said, is to resettle an Afghan family whose members helped U.S. forces during military operations in Afghanistan.
“Such families are currently living in extremely dangerous conditions in Afghanistan because of their support of U.S. and coalition forces,” wrote Seminara in a release.
The special project involved volunteers from Avon, Canton, Simsbury, and across the region.
She said it has received financial support from the Avon Chapter of UNICO National, the largest Italian-American service organization in America.
Seminara presented Post 3272 with an official state citation commending the veterans on their work.
She serves the 8th Senate District, which includes the towns of Norfolk, Hartland, Canton, Simsbury, New Hartford, Avon, Barkhamsted, Colebrook, and parts of Granby, Harwinton, and Torrington.
