Sen. Berthel Celebrates $800,000 Allocation for Main Street Pedestrian Improvements in Watertown

July 25, 2024

Chief Deputy Senate Republican Leader Eric Berthel (R-Watertown) is pleased to announce that Gov. Ned Lamont recently allocated $800,000 for pedestrian improvements on Main Street (Route 63) in Watertown. This funding comes as part of the sixth round of awards from the Connecticut Department of Transportation’s (CTDOT) Community Connectivity Grant Program, a state-funded initiative aimed at enhancing local infrastructure to make conditions safer, more accommodating, and equitable for pedestrians and bicyclists in urban, suburban, and rural centers.

Sen. Berthel expressed his gratitude for the funding and emphasized the critical need for these improvements, noting the ongoing concerns regarding pedestrian and motorist safety on Main Street. “The safety of pedestrians and motorists on Main Street has been a proven concern for our community. Every injury and fatality has been a stark reminder of how badly these improvements needed to be made. This $800,000 allocation will go a long way in helping to make Main Street a safe place to walk and drive,” he said.

Sen. Berthel continued, “I appreciate Governor Lamont for recognizing the importance of this project and allocating the necessary funds. I look forward to working closely with local officials to ensure the successful implementation of these improvements.”
