Sens. Harding & Sampson statement on unsealed Bport ballot harvesting complaint
June 28, 2024For Immediate Release
Sen. Republican Leader Stephen Harding and Sen. Rob Sampson, Ranking Senator on the Government Administration and Elections Committee issued the following statement regarding a newly unsealed complaint which alleges that political operatives in Bridgeport continued to travel door-to-door illegally collecting voters’ absentee ballots, even after a state Superior Court judge tossed the results of the city’s 2023 Democratic mayoral primary due to “blatant” evidence of ballot harvesting.
“It stands to reason that the ballot harvesting would continue. That’s because there are no consequences for bad actors in Connecticut. Republicans have repeatedly tried to put ‘teeth’ into our election integrity laws. But Democrats don’t want teeth in our laws. Time and time again, Democrats shoot down our attempts to hold lawbreakers accountable. This continues to be an embarrassment for our state. Republicans will continue to hold news conferences pressing for election integrity reforms until we finally deal with this culture of fraud and abuse.”
