Sen. Harding & Sampson: Paid Sick Mandate is “tone deaf” and Will Crush Jobs

May 6, 2024

Senate Republican Leader Stephen Harding and Sen. Rob Sampson, Ranking Senator on the Labor and Public Employees Committee, issued the following statement with regard to the Senate taking up a bill to offer paid sick days to all private sector workers.

“This is completely tone deaf. It will crush jobs and small businesses. Connecticut Democrats just love to get in the middle of the employee-employer relationship, don’t they? This will hurt employers and employees by eliminating their ability to negotiate employment terms themselves. Rather than nurturing our small mom and pop businesses, this onerous mandate does just the opposite. Every Democrat who votes ‘yes’ will add to our state’s reputation of being a bad state for business. This is Big Government forcing the engines of our economy to comply.”
