Sen. Gordon Praises Local Police & Public Safety for Response to Woodstock Home Invasion Standoff

May 16, 2024

State Sen. Jeff Gordon (R-Woodstock) today offered his praise and support for law enforcement and local public safety following a home invasion and hours-long standoff at a Woodstock residence.

“Thank you to the Connecticut State Police and local public safety for bringing a safe resolution to an extremely dangerous situation. This perhaps could have ended much worse had it not been for the professionalism of these men and women. This is a relief for the homeowner—who is safe—the Woodstock community, and for my family. We live near the home that was invaded.

“I was in communication with local and state officials. They all did a great job working together. In Woodstock, we are accustomed to living in the Quiet Corner. Yesterday’s incident, which required a SWAT team presence and police directives for some people to evacuate their homes for safety, is uncommon. When criminals threaten our communities, it is our law enforcement and public safety personnel who step up. This is why I strongly support law enforcement being able to fully do what they are trained to do and to have the necessary resources. This is why I strongly support holding criminals accountable for their crimes.

“As we have seen, policies enacted over the years by the legislature’s majority party have moved Connecticut in a wrong direction, limiting what law enforcement can do and weakening the judicial system. The people of Woodstock, the 35th Senate District, and across Connecticut should feel safe. I continue to fight for public safety,” he said.
