Sen. Gordon Denounces Unlawful, Antisemitic Mobs on College Campuses

April 24, 2024

State Sen. Jeff Gordon (R-Woodstock) today denounced the surge in antisemitism on college campuses as antisemitic protests and unlawful occupation continues for the sixth day at Yale University:

“Protests on college campuses, including at Yale, have raised serious concerns, and drawn condemnation by many people. Antisemitism, racism, discrimination, violence, and intimidation should have no place in our society. I strongly oppose acts and ideas rooted in hate.

“More and more, Jewish students on college campuses feel unsafe. People in their communities feel unsafe. Protests that turn violent are unacceptable. College leaders need to do more to restore trust in campuses as safe places to learn and to engage with people as part of that learning process.

“I support freedom of speech and freedom of assembly, but these rights do not allow people to spread hate, to attack others including law enforcement, and break other laws.

“Violent protests on college campuses are just one disturbing part of an overall trend of lawlessness, crime, and diminished public safety that we all know is happening in Connecticut and our country. I will continue my efforts to ensure that law enforcement has the resources and capabilities to fulfill their training and keep us safe, to promote laws that hold criminals fully accountable, and to help law-abiding people and their families who live, work, learn, visit, and retire in Connecticut,” he said.
