Sen. Cicarella Reacts to ‘Surge’ of CT Vehicle Thefts

April 12, 2024

State Sen. Paul Cicarella (R-North Haven), ranking member of the Public Safety and Security Committee, today reacted to news of the National Insurance Crime Bureau’s (NICB) report that revealed a 33 percent surge in vehicle thefts across Connecticut in 2023.

“Families and businesses in our district are not surprised at this alarming statistic. I have heard from hundreds of people who have been a victim themselves or have a family member who’s been a victim. This trend is a result of bad policy that has eliminated nearly any consequence for the crime of motor vehicle theft, particularly for juveniles. I have and will continue to offer better solutions to restore deterrence to these oftentimes violent crimes. I encourage the majority to join me in addressing the true concerns of residents,” said Sen. Cicarella.
