House & Senate GOP Leaders Skeptical of Potential Fiscal Guardrail Violations

“Promises made to taxpayers must be upheld”

House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora and Senate Republican Leader Stephen Harding along with Approritations Committee ranking members Sen. Eric Berthel and Rep. Tammy Nuccio on Thursday released the following statement regarding Democrats on the Appropriations Committee not making adjustments to the biennial budget.

“Promises made to taxpayers must be upheld. Will they be? The bipartisan fiscal guardrails are working. Spending restraints on government are working. They should be left intact. Punting on making adjustments to the budget – which is currently not in balance – shines a bright light on Republicans’ repeated skepticism that impactful decisions on the state budget will be decided by a handful of people behind closed doors. That’s not transparency. That’s not respecting the sacrifices of taxpayers. But it sure looks like that’s what’s happening in Connecticut under one-party Democrats’ rule.”
