Sen. Sampson Sounds Alarm on CT Dems’ Renewed Assault on Gas-Powered Vehicles

March 12, 2024

State Sen. Rob Sampson (R-Wolcott)  today issued the following statement in reaction to pending legislation that provides a “roadmap” for majority Democrats to ban gas-powered vehicles.

“Majority Democrats are out of touch with the people of Connecticut. Their new proposal proves it. The idea of banning gas-powered vehicles was roundly rebuked by Connecticut residents in the summer, and then again in the fall. I held a community forum on the topic and have spoken to hundreds of people. Most residents want personal choice.

“Now, the majority claims that this proposal will simply ‘study’ a ‘roadmap’ to the California-standard electric vehicle mandate. This study will be done by creating more government by way of a 40-person partisan workgroup. It is a sham exercise, and the end result is already decided. What’s still missing from the equation are answers to key questions like: how much will this cost, and how will we build out the infrastructure for the cities and towns? The voices of the people most impacted by this legislation are being left out. Over the weekend, I sent out information to residents on how to submit their comments and concerns during the public hearing process. There is still time and I encourage everyone to do so,” said Sen. Sampson.

A public hearing will be held Wednesday, Mar. 13 at 10 a.m. in Room 2E of the Legislative Office Building. Click here to submit testimony now on House Bill 5485.
