Sen. Sampson Comments on DEI-Related Legislation

March 13, 2024

State Sen. Rob Sampson (R-Wolcott) commented on pending legislation offered by both the Labor and Public Health Committees in the 2024 legislative session that contains “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion” (DEI) mandates on state agencies:

“The focus on ‘equity’ not to be confused with ‘equality’ is all about ignoring merit and hard work in favor of supposedly righting the wrongs of the past–with no respect for real history or who was responsible for what. I fight it tooth and nail every time it rears its head in the legislature, and have been thoroughly frustrated over the years as I have watched my colleagues cowed into voting ‘yea’ for fear of being labeled a bigot. In my opinion, voting ‘yea’ is, in fact, endorsing more racism, and qualifies as a genuine injustice,” he said.
