For Immediate Release

Sen. Lisa Seminara, Ranking Senator on the Human Services Committee, today issued the following statement regarding the committee’s unanimous passage of legislation to implement the recommendations of the state’s Elderly Nutrition Task Force.

“This proposal strengthens the state’s Senior Nutrition Program in order to better address food insecurity among vulnerable elderly state residents.  Its goal is to support community-based services including Meals on Wheels and provide more timely payments to nonprofit providers.  These vital services have a positive impact on keeping seniors healthy and independent in their own homes. I was honored to appoint Sarah Leathers, CEO of the nonprofit Healing Meals Community Project, to the Elderly Nutrition Task Force. I am pleased to see this bipartisan legislation advancing.”
