Jeff Gordon, Connecticut Farm Bureau President and Sprucedale Gardens co-owner Paul Larson, and Fairvue Farms co-owner Paul Miller–both Woodstock residents–highlight the area’s extensive agriculture presence and economic impact during Connecticut Agriculture Day at the Connecticut State Capitol in Hartford. The event, held annually, is part of National Agriculture Week and is a time to celebrate the diversity of the state’s vibrant agriculture sector, tour exhibits, and recognize achievements.

“Agriculture is a major jobs creator in Connecticut and provides the food we need. We must do all we can to support the long-term success and growth of our communities’ farms, farm markets, and other agricultural businesses that produce and distribute food for the people of our state. Every day is a day to support local agriculture,” said Sen. Gordon.

Connecticut Agriculture Day is organized by the state’s Department of Agriculture, and features dozens of exhibitors from across the state. The many exhibitors included people and organizations from the 35th District such as Norman’s Sugarhouse of Woodstock, and several Veteran-owned farms.

Connecticut’s diverse agriculture community consists of more than 5,500 farms which contributes $4 billion to the state’s economy and more than 20,000 jobs, while providing a safe, abundant supply of food, fiber, and flowers.
