Senator John A. Kissel Applauds Grants From the Department of Agriculture for Businesses in East Granby, West Granby, Windsor, and West Suffield

HARTFORD: The Connecticut Department of Agriculture has announced its 2024 Farm Transition Grant awards. These awards were created to expand and improve existing agriculture businesses in the state of Connecticut.

Eligible entities were able to apply to one of four categories including New Farmer Micro Grants, Infrastructure Investment Grants, Research and Development Grants, and Innovation and Diversification Grants. This program year is offering a 25% advance of the grant award for the last three categories with the remainder reimbursed upon project completion. New Farmer Micro Grant awardees will be able to request a 50% advance of their award.

“Connecticut has a rich agricultural tradition that goes back to the founding of our state. I am glad to see the state of Connecticut is continuing to invest in these important agricultural businesses that have an impact on our local community.” Remarked Senator John A. Kissel.

In West Suffield, Three Kisses Farm has received $5,000 for equipment to purchase 30 beehives, maintenance equipment, and honey extraction equipment.

In Windsor, Samad Gardens Initiative has been awarded $19,100 in the Research and Development Category to research to assess the viability of an herbal tea marketplace.

In East Granby, Oxen Hill Farm has been awarded $49,999 in the Innovation and Diversification Category to install a packing system for “steam bags” for their sweet potatoes.

In West Granby, Holcomb Farm has been awarded $14,900 in the Infrastructure Investment Category for an irrigation traveler and potato digger.
