Sen. Kelly: CT must do more for families in need of fuel assistance

February 15, 2024

Republican Senate Leader Kevin Kelly, R-Stratford, said the state must do more for struggling families in need of fuel assistance. He said $17 million between LIHEAP and Operation Fuel is not enough.

“As long as we have people in need in Connecticut, Connecticut’s government needs to address and respond to those needs,” he said. “Yes, something is better than nothing. But, what we need in this area is more like $30 million.”

The bill, he said, is something that should have been done in August. According to the Department of Social Services, $29 million would be enough to completely fund the program.
