For Immediate Release

Senate Republican Leader Stephen Harding (R-Brookfield) and Sen. Ryan Fazio (R-Greenwich), the Ranking Senator on the Energy and Technology Committee, today issued the following statement regarding Eversource’s and United Illuminating’s proposed double-digit rate hikes.

“This is yet another example of why we as policymakers need to work in bipartisan fashion to pass policies that will ease burdens for Connecticut ratepayers now and in the future. Senate Republicans have put forth several policy solutions to make energy more affordable, protect consumers, and strengthen oversight of the utilities. Some of our ideas have garnered bipartisan support, but clearly, we must do more.  State utility regulators must go over these requests with a fine-toothed comb, and we are confident they will do so. Our state is already unaffordable for working and middle-class families. We must make sure ratepayers are not put on the hook for unnecessary and excessive billings.”
