Senator Harding Celebrates the Establishment of the Office of Outdoor Industry and Experiences in Connecticut’s Department of Energy and Environmental Protection
January 11, 2024Sen. Stephen Harding (R-Brookfield) is delighted to announce the establishment of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection’s (DEEP) Office of Outdoor Industry and Experiences. This new office aims to bolster Connecticut’s outdoor recreation economy by fostering partnerships with the private sector. Simultaneously, DEEP is launching a request for information (RFI) to initiate collaborations with businesses, nonprofits, and other private sector entities to enhance services and amenities in state parks.
“My colleagues and I recognize the immense potential of Connecticut’s beautiful state parks, particularly those nestled in the northwest corner of the state. As a longtime advocate for our state parks, I am excited to share some of my favorite places with not just the residents of my district, but with people throughout Connecticut,” Senator Harding said. “These parks are more than just recreational spaces; they are an invaluable resource that provides solace, inspiration, and a deep connection to nature. I am committed to working alongside DEEP and our partners in the private sector to ensure that these treasures are accessible to all.”
The Office of Outdoor Industry and Experiences will play a pivotal role in expanding opportunities for outdoor recreation across the state of Connecticut. By forging strategic partnerships, DEEP aims to create a thriving outdoor industry that will not only benefit the economy but also promote the preservation and appreciation of Connecticut’s natural resources.
“By establishing the Office of Outdoor Industry and Experiences and launching the request for information (RFI), DEEP, along with the support from the legislature, is taking a significant step in enhancing the experience of Connecticut’s state parks,” Senator Harding continued. “Through partnerships with the private sector, new services and amenities will be introduced, providing residents and visitors with even more opportunities to enjoy and appreciate the natural wonders of the state.”
