January 31, 2024For Immediate Release
Sen. Lisa Seminara, Ranking Senator on the Human Services Committee and the Committee on Children as well as a member of the Education Committee, today issued the following statement regarding the governor’s recommendation that licensure application fees required for workers to obtain certain jobs in the education, childcare, and healthcare fields be eliminated.
“From the nursing shortage to the teacher shortage to the early childcare worker shortage, our workforce challenges are significant and widespread. I strongly support any efforts to eliminate barriers to these crucial professions, and I will work collaboratively to get these burdensome state fees eliminated this year. I support looking into eliminating fees for other professions as well. We must continue to send these positive messages and pass bipartisan legislation to make our state more affordable and more prosperous. It starts with listening to our employers, listening to our small businesses and taking swift action based on what they are telling us.”
