(photos) Sen. Hwang: “Fantastic news” for Bethel safety improvements
January 24, 2024For Immediate Release
Sen. Tony Hwang, Ranking Senator on the Transportation Committee, today issued the following statement regarding the announcement that the Western Connecticut Council of Governments’ (WestCOG) Safe Streets and Roads for All application has secured $3,959,346 in federal funds to make vehicle and pedestrian safety improvements at 93 locations across the region:
“Fantastic news and congratulations to WestCOG! It’s particularly good news for Bethel, where safety upgrades will be made on Greenwood Avenue from Farnam Hill to Grand Street, from Front Street to PT Barnum Square, and from Griswold Street to Farnam Hill. We continue to work collaboratively at all levels of government to make our streets safer for pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and motorists alike. At the State Capitol last year, I was proud to help lead the debate to pass a new bipartisan ‘Vision Zero’ law which will help make our roads safer for everyone. Raising awareness and improving education on dangerous driving will help prevent horrifying accidents and senseless loss of life. In Bethel and throughout Connecticut, our mutual priority is to prevent avoidable tragedies, and that work continues every day.”
