COMMITMENT TO COMMUNITY: Sen. Hwang’s CT Capitol update 1-22-2024

January 22, 2024

Greetings from the State Capitol!

Friends and neighbors,

With just two weeks to go before the start of the legislative session, I have been out in our communities listening to you. Thank you for sharing these informative updates with friends and neighbors and thank you for sending me your thoughts and ideas on ways to improve the quality of life in our state and issues to highlight. Here’s what’s happening!

Thank you, Newtown and Sandy Hook!

We had a wonderful turn-out at our pre-Legislative Session forum! Our discussion ranged from zoning to agriculture to environmental protection and transportation. The high cost of insurance was on the minds of many, and we discussed efforts to make our state more affordable, more accountable and safer. Thank you to my legislative colleagues Rep. Mitch Bolinsky and Rep. Marty Foncello for co-hosting.

In Easton: A full house!

I was joined by my CT General Assembly colleague State Rep. Anne Hughes in an engaging and informative pre-legislative session meet and greet with Easton constituents on a wide range of important issues. Land use, watershed and environmental protection was a prime concern from many.  I pledge to bring that pro-environment, pro-public health message to the State Capitol on behalf of Easton residents.

Wednesday in Newtown: Join us!

Please join us this Wednesday for “Hearts of Hope” at the Newtown Community Center. We will be decorating a Valentine’s Day heart for more than 300 service members! Such a wonderful way to support our troops. People of all ages are encouraged to come. Please RSVP at [email protected] – thank you and I look forward to seeing you!

“…not just the umpire, but the first base coach.”

Let’s talk about our CT utilities and ratepayers!  You can read my Sunday op-ed in Hearst CT here.

A.I. is a hot topic at the State Capitol…

Road safety: A top priority

My News 8 interview can be viewed here.

In Fairfield: Chatting with Riverfield Elementary School 1st graders!

Thanks to their teachers: Miss Eaton, Miss Bitzer, and Miss D, all of whom are absolute rock stars!  I read the book, “Circles All Around Us”, a book about our expanding circles and how they get bigger to include our family, extended family, friends, neighbors, and community. The theme was about self-awareness, accentuated by the love, support and kindness of those within our circle. Always enjoying visiting our schools!

On the radio….

I spoke about our ongoing efforts to make CT more affordable. Listen here.

In Bethel: Great bipartisan discussion!

At our well-attended pre-legislative session forum with Rep. Marty Foncello and Rep. Raghib Allie-Brennan, we discussed the environment, unfunded state mandates, and the legislative process.  Big shout-out to the Bethel Public Library and Head Librarian Megan Dean for hosting us, and thanks to everyone who came out!

Send me YOUR ideas on public policies and future newsletter items at [email protected] – thank you!
