Sen. Kelly: Bridgeport judge “saw what the rest of us saw on the videos”: ‘Shocking ballot harvesting’

Senate Republican Leader Kevin Kelly today issued the following statement regarding a Bridgeport judge’s order of a new primary after evidence of mishandled ballots was presented:

“Judge Clark saw what the rest of us saw on the videos: absentee ballot box stuffing in Bridgeport where 1255 ballots were deposited by only 420 individuals. In video after video, we saw dubious and repeated absentee ballot box dumping involving multiple people.  On page 36 of his decision, Judge Clark states plainly that the defendants are asking this court “to disregard the significant mishandling of ballots by partisans that were caught on video flouting the provisions of Connecticut law” and that “to do so would endorse this blatant practice of ballot harvesting.”  He adds that “the videos are shocking to the court and should be shocking to all.
And meanwhile, equally as shocking is that we still don’t have an election monitor in Bridgeport to deter further instances of apparent voter fraud. In September we passed a state law to hire a monitor, but here we are – in November – and there still is no monitor?
These videos confirm our fears about how absentee ballots can be misused. Now the court has spoken. What we need now is trust, faith and confidence in our electoral system.

Republicans will continue to press for reforms to restore integrity. We must make sure that everyone’s vote counts and is not suppressed by those who seek more than one vote.”
