Awards for Area Volunteer Fire Departments
Sen. Lisa Seminara today applauded the announcement that several local volunteer fire departments are receiving 2023 Volunteer Fire Assistance (VFA) Grants from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection which will be used to train personnel and purchase equipment aimed at improving their firefighting capabilities. Area fire companies receiving funds include:
- Colebrook Center Volunteer Fire Department – $2,420
- Colebrook Forge Company – $2,500
- Harwinton Westside Volunteer Fire Company, Inc. – $2,500
- Harwinton Volunteer Fire Department – $1,814
- New Hartford Fire Department – $2,500
- Pleasant Valley Volunteer Fire Department (Barkhamsted) – $2,500
- Riverton Volunteer Fire Department – $2,500
- West Hartland Volunteer Fire Department – $2,027
“We must never take our brave volunteer fire department personnel for granted and we must always be seeking to support them,” Sen. Seminara said. “These grants play a key role in increasing Connecticut’s wildfire preparedness, which is important in a changing climate. They also help in training our fire crews in responding to both in-state fire threats as well as out-of-state threats. We are grateful for the state’s support of our rural fire companies.”
