Senator Fazio & Governor Lamont Applaud Stamford Charter School for Excellence for National Recognition

STAMFORD, CT- State Senator Ryan Fazio (R-Greenwich) joins Governor Ned Lamont and Education Commissioner Charlene Russell Tucker in congratulating Stamford Charter School for Excellence on being named by the U.S. Department of Education as a 2023 National Blue Ribbon School. The school is one of only four schools named in Connecticut.

“Stamford Charter School for Excellence has, time and time again, outperformed all benchmarks and expectations, overcoming funding hurdles almost every academic year. It is such a fortune that Stamford is home to this nationally recognized school.” Senator Fazio said. “The story of Stamford Excellence is inspiring. This public city school serves a student body of around 75 percent, of which qualifies for free and reduced lunch. It is funded many thousands of dollars less per pupil than the average school in the state. Yet, if it were its own standalone school district, it would have the second-highest test scores in the state, after New Canaan and before Westport. Stamford Excellence should be a blueprint for our state and country.”

“Every child deserves access to a quality education that prepares them for success throughout their careers, no matter where they live or what their family’s economic circumstances may be,” said Governor Lamont.

Fazio added, “Congratulations to the administrators, faculty, parents, students, and teachers on their great accomplishment. We are proud of you all. I look forward to watching and supporting the continued success of Stamford Excellence.”

The four Connecticut schools named as 2023 National Blue Ribbon Schools are:

• Marine Science Magnet High School in Groton (operated by LEARN);
• Philip R. Smith School in South Windsor;
• Skinner Road School in Vernon; and
• Stamford Charter School for Excellence in Stamford.
