Senator Fazio Urges Attorney General Tong to Join New Jersey in Decision Regarding New York’s Central Business District Tolling Program

HARTFORD, CT – Today, in a new letter to Attorney General William Tong, Senator Ryan Fazio (R-Greenwich) urged Attorney General Tong to join New Jersey in filing a lawsuit against the US Department of Transportation (USDOT) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA). The lawsuit challenges FHWA’s decision to approve the environmental review phase of New York’s Central Business District Tolling Program.

Senator Fazio said, “Due to New York City’s proximity to Connecticut, it is in our resident’s best interests to have a full environmental impact study conducted before New York can proceed. Not only does this decision have a potential environmental impact, but there will be significant financial impact placed on the thousands of Connecticut residents who commute by car on a regular basis to Manhattan.”

“The decision by FHWA specifically targets constituents in my district, and I urge the Attorney General to join New Jersey in its suit to provide a more economically and environmentally friendly way to relieve congestion on our roads,” Sen. Fazio added.
