Sen. Gordon, Sen. Kissel Applaud State Ag Grant
for Ellington Farmers Market

State Sen. Jeff Gordon and Sen. John A. Kissel, who represent parts of Ellington, today applauded the announcement of state grant funding for Ellington Farmers Market to enhance its outreach and marketing efforts.

The $4,968 microgrant was awarded through the Connecticut Department of Agriculture’s Farm Viability Grant Program Farmers Market Promotion and Outreach category for increased outreach and marketing of the farmers markets via print and online advertisements.

Senator Gordon said, “I thank the Governor and Department of Agriculture for their investment in accessible, fresh food for families in the northeast corner. The Ellington Farmers market is a vital part of our community and this funding will help it to grow its already sizable customer base in our area. I often visit the market, enjoy talking with the great local vendors and supporting our area’s agriculture industry.”

‘“The Ellington Farmers Market is a special place which attracts residents from throughout our region to experience the power of produce,” Sen. Kissel said. “The market has a tremendously positive impact in terms of highlighting health and nutrition, locally grown fresh produce, and teaching area residents of all ages the value of agriculture. This grant will help the market to make more people aware of its events, participating vendors, and entertainment offerings. We are grateful to the state for recognizing Ellington Farmers Market’s value and helping the market to ‘spread the word’ of how it is building healthy communities and improving our quality of life.”

The Ellington Farmers’ Market is a registered 501c3 nonprofit organization.
