Sen. Somers Applauds State Grant for Preston
PRESTON – Sen. Heather Somers today applauded the state’s Mar. 14 approval of $400,000 in Community Investment Fund 2030 grant program funding for Route 2A traffic calming measures to help preserve and protect the historic village of Poquetanuck.
Sen. Somers had written in strong support of the Town of Preston’s application for the funding.
“It’s excellent news for Preston,” Sen. Somers said. “This project has widespread local and regional support from residents, business owners, the Tri-Town Trail Association, and the Mohegan and Mashantucket Tribes. It will address design and engineering costs of the traffic calming measures and will help Preston realize its vision for a safer, more walkable village. The goal is to better connect the community to the Preston Community Park, the Tri-Town Trail and eventually to the Preston Housing Authority and mixed-use economic development. Congratulations to town leaders on putting forward a strong application and attaining this award.”
