Emphasizing its potential positive impacts on job growth, transportation infrastructure, and the environment, Sen. Tony Hwang and the Connecticut Senate Republican caucus today unveiled a set of policy proposals called “A Better Way to an Accountable Connecticut” which inject transparency and sunlight into state government.

The plan, which can be viewed in detail here, includes initiatives to:

  • Increase oversight and transparency of federal COVID-19 relief funds
  • Establish accountability in overseeing federal infrastructure dollars
  • Ensure accountability through the checks and balances of our democracy by establishing the Chief Accountability Office

“As Connecticut receives a historic amount of federal funding intended to provide relief and investment in our state, we must establish proper safeguards, openness, and accountability,” said Sen. Hwang, ranking member of the Transportation Committee. “Every taxpayer dollar should be respected.  People need to know where all the transportation infrastructure money is going, and we must pass a law that says exactly that.  Right now, we have nothing codified. Better transparency will bring about more accountability. That’s the better way.”
