Sen. Henri Martin Joins Senate Republican Call for Government Transparency & Accountability, Unveils Better Way to Accountable CT Plan
“The sacrifices of taxpayers must be respected.”

HARTFORD – Today, Senator Henri Martin (R-Bristol) joined Senate Republicans and local advocates to unveil a set of policy proposals called “A Better Way to an Accountable Connecticut” that inject transparency and light into state government. Caucus members also emphasized the potential positive impacts of government transparency on the state’s job growth, transportation infrastructure, and the environment.
“In recent years, Connecticut has received record numbers of funds from the federal government. When managing these investments, Connecticut and its elected officials must do so with transparency and accountability to taxpayers. The people should have confidence that resources are being put towards CT’s most pressing infrastructure needs, address climate initiatives, and appropriately advance transportation for the future. When the state government invests any exurbanite amount of money in anything, there should be oversite in ensuring the funds are allocated towards their intended use. Senator Kelly said it perfectly, “good ideas find friends,” and the Senate Republican Caucus believes the plan presented today is ‘A Better Way to A More Accountable Connecticut.'”
The plan, which can be viewed in detail here, includes initiatives to:
- Increase oversight and transparency of federal COVID-19 relief funds
- Establish accountability in overseeing federal infrastructure dollars
- Establish a Chief Accountability Officer to increase oversight of state, quasi-public, and municipal activities
