Sen. Kelly Supports Bill to Expand Service on Waterbury Branch line

“It will create new opportunities for area Valley residents and businesses.”

Senate Republican Leader Kevin Kelly on Feb. 27 testified before the legislature’s Transportation Committee on behalf of legislation which aims to improve service on Metro-North’s Waterbury Branch line while adding stops in Naugatuck Valley communities.

“This legislation is about starting a conversation on improving the quality of life in this region and creating a more vibrant economy,” Sen. Kelly said.  “I believe – as do many – that expansion of service on the Waterbury line is critical to future business and housing development in the Naugatuck Valley

The bill calls on the Department of Transportation to improve service on the Metro-North Waterbury Branch line and add stops in Seymour, Shelton and Derby.

“Our state is near dead last in the nation in job growth and income growth,” Sen. Kelly added.  “Families and businesses are struggling under the burdens of taxation and inflation.  We must do everything we can to pass policies which spark economic growth and job creation while making our communities more attractive and affordable.  Expanding service on the Waterbury Branch line is a good idea and a forward thinking idea.  It will create new opportunities for area Valley residents and businesses.”

The bill awaits a vote in the Transportation Committee.
