Sen. Jeff Gordon to Advocate for Crumbling Foundation Relief on CFSIC Board of Directors & Crumbling Foundation Caucus

Offers measure that will enable CT Foundation Solutions Indemnity Co. to continue assisting affected home and business-owners

State Sen. Jeff Gordon (R-Woodstock) was appointed to represent the General Assembly as a nonvoting ex-officio member of the Connecticut Foundation Solutions Indemnity Company, Inc.’s (CFSIC) Board of Directors, the state’s captive insurer for homeowner claims resulting from the crumbling foundations natural disaster in eastern, north and central Connecticut. He also joins the legislature’s Crumbling Foundation Caucus. Sen. Gordon succeeds former State Sen. Dan Champagne (R-Vernon), who previously served these posts.

Upwards of 35,000 homes in a radius of Stafford Springs are potentially affected by a failed concrete foundation due to the possible presence of a naturally occurring iron sulfide, pyrrhotite, in their concrete foundation. The state established CFSIC five years ago to finance related homeowner insurance claims. Since September 2022, the company has paid out nearly $100 million in repairs and reimbursements to affected homeowners.

The program was originally scheduled to expire in 2022 and is presently funded through 2029 under current law. This week, Sen. Gordon offered legislation to fund CFSIC into the future through additional state bonding because of the anticipated thousands of remaining home and business-owner claims.

Sen. Gordon said, “Businesses, apartment complexes, senior housing and school buildings have all been affected by this disaster. I look forward to being a voice for those who are facing, or have faced, financial hardship on CFSIC’s board and on the Crumbling Foundation Caucus. The impact goes well beyond financial, and families were either displaced from their homes or had a housing arrangement put in jeopardy. I look forward to continuing the work to make all affected families and businesses whole.”
