Sen. Paul Cicarella Announces 2023 – 2024 Legislative Committee Appointments

December 21, 2022

State Sen. Paul Cicarella (R-North Haven) today announced the following legislative committee appointments for the 2023 – 2024 legislative sessions: General Law (Ranking Member), Judiciary, Public Safety, and Veterans’ Affairs (Ranking Member). Sen. Cicarella was first elected in 2020 and enters his second term representing the 34th State Senate District. The district includes the towns of Durham, East Haven, North Haven, Wallingford and North Branford, which was added during the 2021 Redistricting Project.

Sen. Cicarella said, “I have been honored to serve as your state senator and I am looking forward to another term as the voice of all families in the 34th District. Going forward, I am ready to work with our Senate Republican leaders to continue our message for an affordable, safe, and prosperous Connecticut. Our state should be one that works for all families, and that is my goal.

“We must bring more tax relief to families and make more improvements to the 2020 “Police Accountability” law, which has placed burdens on police and created opportunities for criminals. I have been extremely vocal on these two issues since I was elected and will continue to do so.”

Sen. Cicarella has been a leading voice for affordability and public safety at the Capitol during his first term in office. Since entering office, he successfully led multiple community rallies across the 34th District to oppose an additional gas tax and, this past spring, to call for additional tax relief. He also brings extensive experience and public safety advocacy as a retired law enforcement professional and current owner of a private investigations agency.

Additionally, Sen. Cicarella continues to lead the effort to connect Connecticut’s residents with well-paying careers through workforce development legislation. In 2022, he made key contributions to a legislative measure that helps high schools to partner with local job creators along with reinvigorating vocational school recruitment. Sen. Cicarella plans to continue his effort to provide opportunities for Connecticut’s diverse workforce.

He said, “We must continue to ensure that all Connecticut residents have an opportunity for well-paying, fulfilling careers—importantly our Veterans. College isn’t for everyone and there’s a pressing need for workers in the trades as well. These fields are not only what keeps our state functioning; they also provide opportunities for many people, both young and more advanced in age, to become employed and on track to a great career.”

Sen. Cicarella urged all residents that are interested in having their voice and ideas heard on issues before the Connecticut General Assembly to contact him at [email protected] or visit www.SenatorCicarella.com.
