Newtown’s state Senator Tony Hwang statement on 10th anniversary of the Sandy Hook tragedy:

“Today in Newtown, we broke ground on the Catherine Violet Hubbard Animal Sanctuary.  The animal and nature sanctuary symbolizes a setting that allows each individual’s unique journey to remembrance and healing through love and kindness, without division and anger. It fulfills the vision of a fallen angel, Catherine Violet Hubbard, to ‘tell all your friends that I am kind.’

Kindness matters.

Love wins.

Ten years after the tragedy, an event like this should give us all hope and encouragement.

A decade later, we have witnessed the resilience and strength of this amazing community each and every day. They have made it their community mission to help others and to improve lives. They have done this by connecting, by co-existing, and by mutually supporting. Their mission is about remembering while healing and moving forward. It’s about connecting, re-connecting, and recovering along life’s journey.

The people of Newtown and Sandy Hook have spread the light of hope and kindness. They continue to spread that much-needed light.

We can learn so much from them.

I am truly honored and humbled to represent the people of Newtown and Sandy Hook.”
