State Sen. Rob Sampson (R-16) today issued the following statement after receiving images of certain Guilford Public Schools teacher training materials used in preparation for the 2022-23 academic year. Senator Sampson has been a vocal advocate at the state level for non-biased and apolitical teaching methods in Connecticut’s public schools. During the 2022 legislative session, he offered several legislative measures to provide parents with transparency in not only curriculum, but also in the content of educator training materials (links below).

“I continue to receive messages from concerned parents and educators regarding how political ideology is being injected into our public schools. While not as overt as last week’s shocking video, it is another example of how Democrats are promoting a progressive agenda in our schools.

“I have always said that political agendas of any sort—progressive or conservative—have no place in the classroom. Equally important, it is perfectly acceptable to cover ‘controversial’ topics as long as they are presented without bias or prejudice. I believe that learning is done through objective discussion. I plan to again introduce similar legislative proposals to those that I introduced last session. I also encourage concerned parents and educators to continue to reach out to me so that I can bring attention to this issue,” he said.
