Sen. Henri Martin (R-Bristol) on Sep. 12 joined construction industry and state building trades representatives in Stratford to highlight “National Construction Appreciation Week”.

“We appreciate the dedicated, hardworking men and women in our construction industry who are instrumental in the development of our infrastructure and growing our economy,” said Sen. Martin, who serves as Ranking Senator of the legislature’s Commerce Committee.

Attendees included the Connecticut Construction Industry Association; the Connecticut State Building Trades; leadership from the Connecticut Laborers District Council, Operating Engineers local 478, and the Connecticut Carpenters Local 326.

In the state legislature, Sen. Martin has made it a priority to push for workforce development policies which enhance apprenticeships and introduce students to the trades as potential career options.

In Connecticut, construction contributes approximately $7.5 billion (2.7%) of the state’s GDP of $276.4 billion. Construction employment in Connecticut in August 2021 totaled 57,200.
