Worried about rising home energy costs? Speak out.
August 25, 2022Join the virtual public hearing on Aug. 29, or email written testimony.
Back in early June, my Republican colleagues and I raised concerns about the financial pressure residents would experience this fall as they faced the skyrocketing expense of heating their homes.
We proposed a plan to use some of the state’s significant surplus funds (a result of overtaxation) to provide additional home heating assistance to working- and middle-class families. Our plan fell on deaf ears. And now CT families are facing more hardship, as federal funding for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program has evaporated.
Dysfunctional Washington has failed to deliver the relief people need, and the majority party in the state of Connecticut is waiting for Washington to bail us out instead of taking action and adopting solutions within their power to protect Connecticut families.
I want you to know that there’s a public hearing Monday morning that provides you an opportunity to share your concerns about this issue either in person (via Zoom) or by submitting written testimony. I hope you’ll consider participating by telling state lawmakers about how rising home heating costs will impact you and your family members.
