Sen. Formica Receives Perfect Score for Voting Record on Jobs & Economic Growth

August 4, 2022

Recognized for 100 percent pro-jobs voting record by CBIA in 2022 Legislative Session Report

HARTFORD – Senate Republican Leader Pro Tempore Paul Formica (R-East Lyme), has been recognized by the Connecticut Business and Industry Association (CBIA) for his 100 percent pro-jobs voting record on key bills identified as critical to the state’s job creators, workforce, affordability, and overall economic growth.

CBIA identified ten key bills from the 2022 legislative session that make up the framework for a legislator’s voting record based on the potential impact—positive or negative—on job growth and the state’s post-pandemic recovery.

Legislators were scored on these measures based on their opposition or support for pro-job positions.

“I’m honored to be recognized for the good work I’ve done with my Republican colleagues to develop, support, and advocate for pro-jobs and pro-economic growth policies to create opportunity for all people,” said Sen. Formica. “Connecticut lags significantly behind the rest of the nation when it comes to our economic recovery following the pandemic. As the cost of living in CT skyrockets and the pain from inflation is rampant, income is not keeping pace. We must be laser focused on opportunity and easing burdens on all CT residents. There is a better way. We can and we must create an environment where all jobs in all parts of our state can grow and thrive, where employers can afford to support good paying jobs, and where all young people have an opportunity to access good paying jobs,” said Formica.

Sen. Formica introduced a comprehensive plan this year focused on job growth and workforce development. The Better Way to a Prosperous Connecticut plan included establishing a pipeline to work, pathways to careers, a health care academy, reviving job fairs and vocational program recruitment, career opportunities for veterans, revising occupational licensing, establishing a Buy CT to Build CT program to support defense industry jobs, and growing jobs in the state’s flagship insurance industry.

“Our voting records reflect lawmakers’ priorities, measuring their support for small businesses and for critically needed workforce development and affordability solutions,” said CBIA president and CEO Chris DiPentima.
