Barkhamsted, CT – State Senator Kevin Witkos (R-Canton) recently took part in a vine cutting ceremony to officially open the newly built boardwalk at the Agnes Bowen Trail in People’s State Forest located in Barkhamsted.

“This is a wonderful project that would not have been possible if not for the many volunteers who give of their time and effort to continuously improve this great asset. A special thanks to the many local donors and the Community Foundation of Northwest Connecticut for helping to make this project possible, along with DEEP, the Connecticut Forest & Park Association, and the Farmington River Coordinating Committee” said Senator Witkos.

The new boardwalk is approximately 800′ long and allows hikers to traverse the Beaver Brook Swamp.  It includes several lookout points, and offers hikers the chance to enjoy a previously inaccessible section of the forest.
