March 21, 2022

Torrington, CT – Senator Kevin Witkos (R-Canton) recently toured the Oliver Wolcott Technical High School in Torrington accompanied by school Principal Richard Shellman.   The school draws students from a number of towns, including all 11 towns of the 8th Senate District.  Students choose from 12 unique career clusters including culinary, manufacturing, cosmetology, autobody, electrical, carpentry, and more.

Senator Witkos spoke with Principal Shellman about the importance of the trades and the emphasis that the Senate Republican Caucus has placed on supporting a pipeline to jobs for students and skilled workers.

“I so appreciated the chance  to visit and tour the Oliver Wolcott Technical High School in Torrington. From carpentry, manufacturing, automotive, autobody, culinary, and plumbing heating and cooling, it was great to see the students hard at work learning their trade. It’s so important that the state continue to support the trades and that we encourage the pipeline of students from schools like Oliver Wolcott direct to employers.  Several students at the school are already working with businesses even as they wrap up their senior year, and it’s great to know that they will transition into fulltime employment in good paying jobs upon graduation” said Senator Witkos.
