Sen. Cicarella Applauds State Approval of Funding for Wallingford Family YMCA

State Sen. Paul Cicarella (R-34) applauded the state bond commission’s approval today of a $1 million state investment in the Wallingford Family YMCA. The state funds are a grant-in-aid for renovations of the facility including installation of a new playscape, construction of an Aquatics Center and handicap accessibility enhancements.

 

Senator Cicarella said “This is a big win for Wallingford families. Thank you to the Bond Commission for recognizing the importance of the health and wellness of our community in Wallingford and the surrounding area. We’ve seen tremendous community investment in the Wallingford Y, and this funding will be leveraged with community and corporate gifts to complete these needed renovations. Thank you to Executive Director and CEO Sean Doherty and his staff, volunteers, members and donors who’ve been working hard to turn their vision for a modern family recreation and wellness facility into a reality.”

 

Wallingford Family YMCA Executive Director and CEO Sean Doherty also offered his praise.

 

He said,Thank you to our volunteers, members, donors and Board of Directors for their hard work to transform our YMCA and thank you to the State Bond Commission and Senator Cicarella for helping us take another step in this direction. In particular, this state funding will now be leveraged with millions in community and corporate gifts to move our Aquatics Center project forward. This new center will enable us to serve more families and draw even more people to the Wallingford region.”
