CT Senate Republican Leaders’ Statement on January 6, 2021 Capitol Violence

January 6, 2022

HARTFORD – Senate Republican Leader Kevin Kelly (R-Stratford) and Senate Republican Leader Pro Tempore Paul Formica (R-East Lyme) released the following statement regarding on the January 6, 2021 violence in Washington that occurred a year ago today:

“We condemn the violence of January 6, 2021 in the strongest of terms, just as we have continued to do since the day it happened. A year later justice moves forward, and the tarnishing on our democracy and the process that occurred in Washington last year must serve as a reminder to be ever vigilant and grateful for our freedoms provided to us by the brave men and women who have sacrificed for our nation. We must not tolerate violence, and we must together encourage peaceful and respectful civil discourse so the voices of all people are heard. This is a core value of our state and our nation that must be protected.

“January 6, 2021 was a peaceful day in Connecticut, a far different scene than what occurred in Washington. Outside our state Capitol, Connecticut honored the start of the legislative session with the swearing in of bipartisan lawmakers and new legislative leaders in a ceremony marked by unity. In Connecticut, we do not stand for violence or those who incite division. That is not the Connecticut way.”
