Sen. Tony Hwang Raises Awareness about Breast Cancer Risks and Importance of Preventative Care

FARMINGTON – Senator Tony Hwang (R-28) who is a co-ranking member of the Public Health Committee and ranking leader on the Insurance and Real Estate Committee toured and interacted/learned from Jefferson Radiology’s Diana James, MD and Jean Weigert, MD as they emphasized the clinical importance of early detection and regular breast cancer screenings.  Governor Ned Lamont, Lieutenant Governor Susan Bysiewicz, Department of Public Health Commissioner Dr. Manisha Juthani, Department of Children and Families Commissioner Vannessa Dorantes, Connecticut Radiology Society Executive Director Linda Kowalski participate in the awareness initiative.

Senator Hwang on Encouraging Breast Mammogram Screenings:

“When thinking about my beloved mother, wife and daughter, I can fully appreciate any reminder for women to seek out opportunities to monitor their physical health. Like many factors of self-care, the statistics show that a considerable percentage of women chose to put off getting their regularly scheduled mammogram. Especially in the beginning of the pandemic there was a lot of concern over the unnecessary risk one would put themselves through in order to make a ‘routine’ visit to their doctor or specialist. Today’s conversation highlighted how something that is easily put on the back burner can actually be the difference between life and death.”
