Sen. Somers Earns 100% Perfect Score from CT’s Leading Business Association

September 23, 2021

Using key pieces of legislation to rank state lawmakers during the 2021 legislative session, the Connecticut Business and Industry Association (CBIA) recently highlighted State Senator Heather Somers’ perfect 100% score.

“Now more than ever, we need to support our small businesses,” Sen. Somers said. “This perfect score from the state’s business community is much appreciated, but we have a long way to go before Connecticut is viewed as ‘business friendly’, Here in Connecticut, we must plant seeds for job growth wherever we can. We must be creative. That is my goal at the State Capitol, and I will not stop pushing to pass policies which make Connecticut a more pro-growth, pro-business, pro-taxpayer state.”

This year, Sen. Somers opposed Democrats’ attempts to hike the income tax, the gas tax, and a tax on health insurance premiums. She also opposed a proposed new statewide house tax.

While opposing tax hikes, Sen. Somers worked to successfully pass legislation to support continued growth and sustainability of Connecticut’s vibrant shellfish industry through better management of natural oyster beds. She also fought to get eastern Connecticut’s economy moving again by championing legislation to attract a new and explosive job growth industry – qualified data centers – to locate in the state.

“My best pro-growth ideas come directly from the people and businesses I represent,” Sen. Somers said. “I urge taxpayers to contact me at [email protected] with thoughts and ideas for future legislation which can help grow jobs and create new industries in Connecticut.”
