Sen. Kissel: “We need to end ‘government by governor’ in Connecticut.”

Sen. John A. Kissel, R-Enfield, today announced he will not support an attempt to extend the governor’s emergency executive powers.

“We are not in an emergency situation, and we need to end ‘government by governor’ in Connecticut,” Sen. Kissel said.  “An extension of the governor’s executive powers is unnecessary.  The legislature is perfectly capable of convening at a moment’s notice in the ‘People’s House’ to debate and vote on policies as they arise.  I will be a strong ‘no’ vote and I urge my fellow lawmakers to join me in voting ‘no’.”

The Connecticut General Assembly will meet at the end of the month to consider extending the governor’s emergency powers.

Sen. Kissel serves as Ranking Senator on the legislature’s Judiciary Committee. He represents East Granby, Enfield, Somers, Suffield, Windsor Locks and parts of Granby and Windsor. On the web: www.SenatorKissel.com
