Sen. Cicarella, Rep. Candelora Visit Wallingford Senior Center, Tackle Quality-of-Life Issues for Seniors
September 20, 2021
Senator Cicarella and House Republican Leader Vincent Candelora (R-86) on Thursday, Sept. 16 spoke to roughly 50 residents at the senior center here, providing them with an update about what’s happening at the state capitol before fielding questions about a variety of issues tied to the increasing cost of living in Connecticut. Visitors to the lunchtime event expressed concern about the controversial Transportation and Climate Initiative Partnership (TCI), telling the legislators they can’t afford to pay more for gas.
When residents mentioned worries about inflation, Candelora explained that the hiring and supply-chain challenges businesses face right now will also contribute to the increased cost of goods and services. Other subjects discussed included the proposed extension of the governor’s broad emergency powers, the growing severity of juvenile crimes, and expanding eligibility for senior tax relief. Senator Cicarella emphasized his strong opposition to any extension of the Governor’s emergency powers, noting the importance fully restoring the voice of the people by way of their elected representatives in Hartford.
