Sen. Formica on Extending Lamont’s Emergency Powers

July 14, 2021

HARTFORD – Senate Republican Leader Pro Tempore Paul Formica (R-East Lyme) today was part of a bipartisan voting bloc who voted against extending the Governor’s emergency authority through September 2021. While the resolution still passed, Sen. Formica shared the following reaction to the vote:

“Connecticut needs to start moving beyond the Covid -19 pandemic and join an overwhelming number of states in the northeast including New York, New Jersey, and Massachusetts in lifting the emergency powers. This state has done an outstanding job moving toward full recovery with policies and practices to slow the spread, encourage a high vaccination rate and sustain the corresponding low infection rates. Democrats are pointing to problems where the numbers just don’t match up. Today people are being invited to enjoy the state’s wonderful public places including attractions, restaurants, museums and concerts. This pandemic is not over, however I believe it to be under control enough to include the legislature and local authorities in the decision making process.“
