Formica, Kelly on Federal Efforts to Crack Down on Air Pollution

July 29, 2021

Senate Republican Leader Kevin Kelly (R-Stratford) and Senate Republican Leader Pro Tempore Paul Formica (R-East Lyme) released the following statement regarding the Attorney General’s announcement on federal efforts to crack down on air pollution:

“Connecticut Republicans pushed our federal delegation to step up and make clean air a priority on the national level. Today’s news is a welcome step in that direction. As our Attorney General has said, Connecticut sits at the end of the tailpipe of the nation’s exhaust fumes. Global jet streams blow air from west to east. No matter what we do in Connecticut, our air quality is largely determined by pollutants in states to our west. Instead of pushing for new gas taxes on Connecticut residents to limit their use of gasoline, our Democrat delegation in Washington should be pushing the federal government to focus on other states that are far behind Connecticut in emission policies. We look forward to continuing efforts to protect CT’s air quality without making our state more unaffordable for working and middle class families.”
