“Chief Catania’s Legacy will Live on.”

March 10, 2021

Sen. Henri Martin (R-31) shares the following statement on the recent passing of Plainville Police Chief Matthew Catania:

“His life and service were cut short, however the imprint that Chief Catania has had on the Town of Plainville and the law enforcement community will live on for decades to come.

“I had the honor to work with Chief Catania my very first year in the state senate where he was instrumental in ensuring public safety and ultimately spurring law changes that eliminated loopholes where criminals could be granted parole without any notice to the victim’s family.

“The leadership and dedication of Chief Catania are inspirations I will carry with me for the rest of my life. Plainville and Connecticut have been made better, safer places to live for all citizens due to the hard work of Chief Catania and the law enforcement officers he led during his time in service.

“Especially in these times where law enforcement officers are being judged and generalized by the behavior of bad actors, it is of the utmost importance that we recognize the accomplishments and character of the good ones. There is no question that Chief Catania embodied both who and how those in law enforcement should aspire to be.”
